dignity packs

Girl learners from disadvantaged backgrounds often face serious challenges when it comes to hygiene and sanitation. For many, access to basic menstrual health products is not guaranteed, and this reality can impact attendance, concentration, confidence and overall wellbeing.

In response, the Rustenburg Community Development Trust (RCDT) distributed dignity packs to young girls in the community, ensuring they have access to essential sanitary products and hygiene items.

This initiative goes beyond providing materials. It restores dignity.

Why Dignity Packs Matter

When girls lack access to sanitary products, they may miss school during their menstrual cycle. Over time, this contributes to learning gaps and reduced academic performance. By providing dignity packs, RCDT is directly supporting:

  • Improved school attendance

  • Greater confidence and self-esteem

  • Better hygiene and health awareness

  • Reduced stigma around menstrual health

Each pack includes essential hygiene products carefully selected to meet practical needs, helping learners manage their menstrual cycles safely and confidently.

Breaking the Silence

Alongside distribution, the programme encourages open conversations about menstrual health and personal hygiene. Education remains key to dismantling stigma and equipping young women with the knowledge they need to care for themselves.

Through initiatives like this, RCDT continues to invest in holistic community upliftment – addressing real challenges with practical solutions that protect dignity and unlock potential.

Because when girls are supported, communities thrive.

Wellness

We’re thrilled to share a major milestone in our community development work. The Rustenburg Community Development Trust (RCDT) has officially handed over the newly established Wellness Centre to local community members. This isn’t just a ribbon cutting; it’s a long-term investment in health, education and everyday wellbeing.

The Wellness Centre offers access to essential equipment and structured programmes that encourage regular physical activity, wellbeing education and healthier lifestyles for residents of Rustenburg and surrounding villages.

What the Centre Means for the Community

  • Health Through Activity: The Centre is equipped with exercise facilities and resources that encourage regular movement, making fitness accessible to people of all ages.

  • Education for Wellbeing: RCDT will host ongoing health awareness sessions at the Centre, covering topics like nutrition, lifestyle habits, fitness basics and disease prevention. This is so residents aren’t just using the equipment, they’re learning how to stay well long-term.

  • Community Connection: More than a building, this space is a place to connect, learn and support one another. It brings neighbours together around a shared goal: better health for all.

This initiative aligns with RCDT’s broader mission to foster sustainable and inclusive upliftment, supporting not just economic opportunities but holistic wellbeing too. A healthier community is a more empowered community, and this Wellness Centre is a practical step toward that future.

We’re grateful to all partners and community members who helped make this happen, from planning and construction to programme development and launch.

Stay tuned for updates on upcoming Wellness Centre activities and ways to get involved.

Together, we’re building a healthier tomorrow.
