EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW BEFORE APPLYING FOR A GRANT

PARTNERING FOR COMMUNITY IMPACT

The Rustenburg Community Development Trust (RCDT) invests in initiatives that strengthen communities, empower individuals and create sustainable impact. We support local organisations and leaders who address real needs in practical, measurable ways.

We do not simply fund projects; we partner with initiatives that demonstrate accountability, vision and a commitment to long-term change. Our priority is to support programmes that build capacity and expand opportunity within the Rustenburg community.

All applications are assessed against our funding priorities and governance requirements. Applications that do not meet the stated criteria or are submitted without the required documentation will not be considered.

Applicants are encouraged to submit proposals that are clear, realistic and aligned with the Trust’s objectives.

  • Community-Based Organisations (CBOs)
  • Public Benefit Organisations (PBOs)
  • Schools and educational institutions
  • Community initiatives with a formal governance structure

Applicants must operate within the Rustenburg area and demonstrate clear community benefit.

What We Do Not Fund

Certain activities fall outside our scope, including politics, personal fundraising and retrospective costs. We focus only on projects delivering tangible community benefits.

The Trust does not fund:

  • Political organisations or activities
  • Religious activities (unless linked to measurable community development outcomes)
  • Individuals (unless part of an approved programme)
  • Retrospective funding (projects already completed)
  • Debt repayment
  • Fundraising events or sponsorships
  • Administrative overheads not directly linked to project delivery

Funding Criteria

Successful applications clearly identify community needs and offer practical, measurable solutions. We value sustainability, accountability and capacity-building above all.

To be considered, your application must:

  • Clearly define the problem being addressed
  • Demonstrate community need
  • Outline a realistic implementation plan
  • Provide a detailed budget
  • Show measurable outcomes
  • Include governance and accountability structures
  • Demonstrate sustainability beyond the grant period

We favour projects that build capacity rather than create dependency.

Complete and accurate documentation is essential for your application to be considered. Ensure all registration, financial and project materials are included.

  • Constitution or founding document

Reporting and Accountability

Grant recipients must provide regular updates and financial accountability. Compliance ensures continued support and strengthens community trust.

Approved beneficiaries must:

  • Sign a funding agreement
  • Submit progress reports as agreed
  • Provide financial accountability reports
  • Allow site visits if required

Failure to comply may affect future funding eligibility.

Important Notes

Applicants should ensure their proposals are thorough, well-prepared and fully aligned with the Trust’s focus areas. Please note that submitting an application does not guarantee funding.

The Trust may request additional information, clarification or supporting documents at any stage to better understand your project and its potential impact. All funding decisions are final, and the Trust reserves the right to approve, partially fund or decline any application.

Applicants are encouraged to review the guidelines carefully, provide complete and accurate documentation and demonstrate clearly how their project will benefit the community.

Even if an application is unsuccessful, the Trust welcomes future applications and continuous engagement, as we aim to support initiatives that contribute meaningfully to Rustenburg’s growth and wellbeing.
