EDUCATION OVERVIEW

Education is a key focus area for the Rustenburg Community Development Trust (RCDT) in its mandate to uplift communities and improve quality of life. Through investment in learning infrastructure, skills development and academic support programmes, RCDT seeks to create conducive environments that enable learners to reach their full potential. This approach is aimed at breaking the cycle of poverty, expanding opportunity and preparing children and youth for meaningful participation in the economy and society. RCDT believes education is fundamental to empowered, self-reliant communities.

EARLY CHILDHOOD DEVELOPMENT (ECD)

CAPACITY BUILDING OF ECD CENTRES IN KANANA VILLAGE, CURRICULUM & INFRASTRUCTURE UPGRADES

Impact: This initiative supports young children in Kanana Village by improving the physical environment of ECD centres and enhancing the quality of early education. RCDT played a key role in helping centres register with the Department of Social Development and equipping educators with the competency skills required by the Department of Basic Education.

By upgrading classrooms, boosting infrastructure and strengthening curriculum delivery, the programme ensures children start school ready and confident – and gives families peace of mind that their little ones are learning in safe, sound settings.

KUTLWANO KARABO FOUNDATION – EARLY CHILDHOOD AND POVERTY ALLEVIATION SUPPORT (KANANA)

Impact: Aimed at alleviating the effects of poverty and improving early learning outcomes, this initiative focuses on the youngest learners in Kanana. RCDT’s involvement ensures the provision of essential teaching tools, upgraded classroom furniture and kitchen equipment so children have nutritious meals, clean facilities and a stimulating environment. It’s about setting a holistic foundation – cognitive, social, emotional – for children to thrive from day one.

SCHOOLS AND SCHOOL-BASED SUPPORT

AND SOFT SKILLS AND CAREER DEVELOPMENT

DEPT OF EDUCATION – DONATION OF SCHOOL DESKS AND CHAIRS

Impact: In partnership with RCDT, this project provided vital furniture to several schools (Tlhage, Photsaneng, Platinum Village, Mfidikwe Primary and Tshukudu High). By creating more conducive and safe learning spaces, the initiative helped improve the day-to-day experience of learners and teachers alike. It’s a reminder that sometimes infrastructure matters just as much as curriculum: learners need the right environment to engage and succeed.

KROONDAL PRIMARY SCHOOL
– EDUCATION SUPPORT (KROONDAL)

Impact: This project enhanced teaching and learning by equipping classrooms with interactive tools – such as televisions and whiteboards – bringing modern, dynamic visuals into the school day. With RCDT’s backing, teachers can deliver lessons that engage learners more fully, helping to boost academic performance and retention. The classroom becomes a space of discovery, not just repetition.

I AM A DREAMER FOUNDATION

Impact: RCDT supports the I am a Dreamer foundation which runs tutorial and after-school classes designed to complement the formal school curriculum. By providing extra support time for learners who may otherwise struggle, the programme works to improve academic results, build confidence and give each child the chance to excel. It’s about recognising that one size does not fit all – and supporting learners when they need that extra boost.

C.O.U.N.T. / FAMILY MATHS PROGRAMME
Students at COUNT

Impact: Recognising the critical importance of numeracy, RCDT backs a parent-engagement initiative that gives families the tools to take an active role in their children’s mathematics learning. Through games, training sessions and at-home activities, the programme helps improve learners’ results in maths while strengthening parent-child learning bonds. When parents are empowered, children benefit  – and the community wins.

VOCATIONAL, EDUCATION,
SKILLS DEVELOPMENT (WESSA NPO)

Impact: This collaboration supports environmental education and skills development for young school-aged learners – particularly in the form of awareness campaigns, tree-planting, crop cultivation and stewardship of the natural surroundings. RCDT’s role amplifies the impact by linking education to real-life, hands-on activity – helping learners to develop an environmental ethic and practical skills that transcend the classroom.

SKILLS DEVELOPMENT AT THE STRENUE TRUST: CAREER EMPOWERMENT PROGRAMME

Impact: This programme rounds off the educational journey by equipping older youth and young adults with the skills and pathways they need to transition confidently into work, learnerships or entrepreneurship. With RCDT’s support, the initiative offers career guidance, bursary access, learnerships, entrepreneurship training and consulting for investing corporations. It’s not just about getting a job – it’s about creating a career, building self-reliance and preparing a generation for life beyond school.
